I recently spent a few nights at 2060 The Newton in Madrid during my solo trip to Spain. This hostel review will tell you why The Newton is one of the best hostels for solo travelers!
Read on to see how the creators of 2060 The Newton have transformed the hostel into a thought-provoking space that encourages guests to seize the present moment and embrace life’s richness!
Visiting Madrid
Madrid is a vibrant city with a rich history, beautiful architecture, and delicious Spanish food. And the best way to experience Madrid as a solo traveler (or with friends!) is by staying in one of the city’s best hostels. Not only is it a budget-friendly way to travel, but hostels are also a hub of culture, where you can meet fellow travelers, share stories and experiences, and make new friends.
I recently stayed at 2060 The Newton Hostel in Madrid, and it left such an impression on me that I cannot wait to share my experience with you!
Oh, and I can’t forget! 2060 The Newton’s central location near the train station makes this hostel a great choice for anyone who plans to spend one day in Cordoba, admiring the ancient Mezquita and the city’s gorgeous flower-filled patios.
PS: While you’re in Madrid, don’t forget to try all the amazing food. My favorite place to try the best tapas in Madrid? One of them is Calle Ponzano, a hidden gem the locals adore!
Psst: The options are endless! Check out this guide to the best hostels in Madrid for solo travellers.
1. The Concept
This Madrid hostel has the COOLEST concept I’ve come across in all my years of solo travel.
Newton predicted the end of the world would come in 2060 and this prophecy inspired the creators of 2060 to design a space that lets travelers live life to the fullest. Throughout the hostel, you’ll find fun graphic nods to Newton, physics, and small reminders to enjoy every moment.
Not only is this a fun concept perfect for any travel adventure, but the hostel has good design with a sleek black and white industrial vibe complemented by a jade green tone and natural plants.
2. Their Story
Want to hear a story that’ll make your heart skip a beat? Well, buckle up, because this one is proof that destiny is real and crossroads can lead to epic tales.
Meet Sergio and Felipe. They started off as coworkers but ended up as the best of friends bonded by their shared dreams.
For 11 years, they chased after a dream without fear, without hesitation, without looking back. And that dream was 2060 The Newton. They wanted more than anything to open their own hostel.
But fate had other plans. Sadly, Sergio’s time was up before 2060 became a reality. But Felipe likes to think that he’s still watching over the place, because he knows the universe conspires to make our dreams come true.
2060 is not just a hostel, it’s Sergio’s forever sanctuary. And it’s a haven for all of us who realize that time is precious, and all we really want is to LIVE.
Thanks to a bunch of destined souls, 2060 is a place where everything has meaning. I loved staying here knowing it was the product of someone’s dream. At 2060 The Newton, it feels like destiny is about to lead you on a wild ride.
3. The Group Activities
Okay, the real reason 2060 Madrid is the best hostel for solo travelers? The group activities.
They’re like the social director of your dreams, with loads of activities to keep you entertained every day. Whether you’re into tours, bar crawls, dinners, or just some good old-fashioned drinking games, they’ve got you covered.
The hostel dinners really stood out to me since dining alone can be one of the hardest parts of any solo trip.
2060 solves that problem and offers more group activities than any other hostel in Madrid. You’re guaranteed to make friends!
4. Free Churros
Yep. You read that right. Free churros.
2060 The Newton offers them up each morning: hot, fresh, and delicious! And yes, they come with chocolate too.
If that alone isn’t a reason to book at 2060, I’m not really sure what else will please you!
It’s no secret that my favorite way to enjoy Spain’s incredible food culture is through a food tour. However, booking a tour without doing careful research would be a huge mistake!
So many travelers book food tours in Spain, not realizing that they can’t count on paella to be on every menu. But it can be so time-consuming to sort through the dozens of different tour offerings!
That’s why I created this Ultimate Guide to the Best Madrid Tapas Tours based on my own experiences to help you find a tour perfectly suited to your interests! You can choose between wine-focused tours, cooking classes, or even book a combined flamenco and tapas experience.
5. Location
2060 The Newton Host is located in the vibrant and culturally diverse neighborhood of Lavapiés. Located in the heart of Madrid and known for its bohemian atmosphere, it offers a rich tapestry of art, music, and amazing Spanish cuisine.
The hostel is so centrally located it’s unlikely you’ll need to do anything but walk, which makes getting around Madrid super convenient.
However, if you prefer, you can rent a bike from 2060 to explore the city!
6. Accommodations
The hostel offers a range of accommodation options, from private ensuite rooms to mixed dormitories. The dormitories are spacious and come with sturdy bunk beds, with curtains and personal lockers for added security.
The beds were bigger than any other hostel I’ve stayed at recently, which is a massive thumbs up. They also offered plenty of privacy. I practically forgot there was anyone else in the room with me! Until the snoring started that is… (Kidding, I’m kidding!)
7. Facilities
One of the major highlights of 2060 hostel is that it has an excellent rooftop terrace with stunning views of Madrid’s skyline.
It’s the perfect spot to unwind after a day of sightseeing, watch the sunset, or catch up with fellow travelers over drinks. The hostel does not have a communal kitchen, but there is a workspace, rooftop bar, restaurant, hot tub, and sauna, which are all clean and well-maintained. Plus, A/C.
8. Caring Staff
The staff at 2060 The Newton Hostel are friendly, helpful, and always willing to go out of their way to make your stay comfortable. They are fluent in English and Spanish and can help you with tips on the best places to eat, the best museums to visit, or the best ways to get around the city.
9. The Price
Finally, let’s talk about the price. Hostels are known for being budget-friendly, and 2060 The Newton Hostel is no exception. The hostel offers great value for money, with prices for a dormitory bed starting as low as $25 per night. The private ensuite rooms are priced slightly higher at around $100 per night. There are also family rooms for groups.
