Looking for the best things to do in Ericeira, Portugal? Perfect! We’re here to explore the best sights and attractions in this charming Portuguese town near Lisbon and Mafra.

I just finished my third stay in Ericeira, one of my favorite places to relax in between visits to busy nearby cities. As an epic beach destination and one of the safest places for solo travelers in Europe, this spot has become my go-to remote work getaway.

Ericeira is famous for being one of the best surf towns in Portugal and part of Europe’s only World Surfing Reserve. With gorgeous golden sand beaches, world-class surf schools, and fun outdoor activities, this small coastal town is now a digital nomad hotspot, but don’t worry, it’s totally free of crowds!

Even though I don’t surf much, I still love coming here to enjoy the incredible viewpoints, sunny beaches like Praia dos Pescadores, and exciting nightlife. From the stunning coastline and unparalleled seafood restaurants to its narrow streets and relaxed atmosphere, let’s take a look at the best things to do in Ericeira!

Surfing in Ericeira

While not a surfer myself, my friend Whitney adventured through the country learning all about surfing in Portugal. She’s written everything you need to know in this epic guide to surfing in Ericeira, including the best surf shops and her favorite surf camp in town!

Is Ericeira Worth Visiting?

First thing’s first! If you’re wondering whether Ericeira is worth a visit, here’s what you need to know. Just north of Lisbon, Ericeira is home to Europe’s only World Surf Reserve, a globally recognized surfing area that spans over 5 miles of coastal line. It’s home to a number of exceptional surf breaks, including famous spots like Ribeira d’Ilhas and Coxos.

After spending time here on my Portugal solo travel adventures, I can assure you this place is an absolute treasure!

After a hectic solo trip to Lisbon, I knew I needed a break before I ventured to another city to take on Porto solo travel (followed by Algarve solo travel!) Ericeira was just the place for some relaxation and remote work productivity. Hidden away from tourist crowds, this town is typically cooler during the summer which was quite a relief.

In addition to world-class surfing, Ericeira is also known for being one of the best beach towns in Portugal. While it doesn’t have as many tourist hotspots like Portugal’s larger cities, the seafood and sunsets here are truly excellent!

Ericeira is best for anyone who’s looking for a laidback off-the-beaten-path getaway full of surfing, coworking spaces, and total relaxation.
